The new and improved Octatrack MKII is much more than a sampler. Learn how to use this sound-mangling machine to its full potential with our Elektron expert, Thavius Beck!

Can the Octatrack MKII do sample layering with velocity switching on a kind of do you prefer and why, a Octatrack or a kind of Akai styled sampler in a live set? Octatrack is more of a live gig machine as it replaces a laptop Nov 16, 2017 Elektron's Octatrack (now in its second iteration) is a also a staple of creative at a home studio, or in a live setting with real-time resampling.

I love how this guy is resampling the same thing and triggering back pieces with different trigs, grains, and fx.

I mean this is probably obvious to all seasoned Octatrack users… But I have finally gotten over my avoidance of doing real-time resampling, and wow… I wish I had done it sooner. Previously I was using it more as a one-shot machine, and got some nice tracks this way, but this is completely on another level… I have recorded loads of loops this morning of my favourite drum chains, which

The setup is pretty simple : the Digitakt provides the drums, the violin and the siren while the sampling part is handled by the Octatrack, which records the vinyl into a pre-sliced slot that I can access through MIDI with the Keystep. I don't think the MPC can hang in this regard. Take care though -- a lot of the mangling at this level with OT are largely "live only" because it can be crazy complicated to script midi events for what you want -- which implies you'll probably be resampling anyway. Maybe … Such a joy!

The way he uses parts to transition thru machines to flex machines playing the recorded buffer opened so many new possibilities to my workflow. Had the Octatrack for a few days and so far no huge issues- thanks to all of the videos I watched waiting for it to arrive. I am having a problem with after I record/edit/save a sample, the track I used to sample into keeps looping recording so I cannot use that track to replay the sample it created.

With Octatrack, live sampling, resampling and looping capabilities are baked in the workflow. Audio Inputs and outputs : Octatrack has four mono (or two stereo) inputs and outputs. On the input side this means you can feed multiple instruments into it for sampling purposes or for applying effects.

Take care though -- a lot of the mangling at this level with OT are largely "live only" because it can be crazy complicated to script midi events for what you want -- which implies you'll probably be resampling anyway. Maybe … Such a joy! Recording the master track (on loop setting) capturing all nuances of live changes and instantly shift between the newly recorded material and performance done on top of it (like the crossfader transition trick). So much fun to get beat juggle type beats for creating new rhythms and fills. So I have it set up so that when the fader is to the left it plays the original sequence and Octatrack MK2 - Live resampling tutorial video by Dataline, released 07 October 2017 1. With Octatrack, live sampling, resampling and looping capabilities are baked in the workflow.

Sure OT can 'solve your problem' if you require ultra-over-9000 sample/resample mangling outside of Live. I don't think the MPC can hang in this regard.
